The main advantage of using cast iron fireplace fascias over traditional cast iron inserts is due to their size. The 16″ x 22″ cut-out allows you to insert an inset gas fire. This isn’t possible with normal cast iron inserts where a freestanding gas burner is installed.
Inset gas fires are also much more efficient than free standing gas fires used in normal cast iron inserts. In addition they can be used for solid fuel with a clay back, trim and fret set. This is because they have a standard opening to fit modern fires.
