From the early 20th Century and through the 1920’s and 1930’s up to the 1960’s, glazed tiled hearths would accompany a tiled fireplace insert or all tiled fireplace.
Glazed tile hearths are ideal to go with tiled fireplaces including cast iron inserts with decorative tile panels. They are an important addition to a focal point fireplace. The range of colours available means we can make a hearth to compliment most interior décor schemes.
Traditional fireplace tiles are twice fired through a kiln and are more robust than wall tiles. Fireplace tiles also have rounded edges that makes them distinctive from other tiles. There fireplace tiles are made from an earthenware body, 9mm thick, and finished in a range of period glazes. We offer a good range of standard glaze colours and we can also offer a degree of colour matching of tiles.
We can make tiled hearths in almost any shape or size from 4 inch and 6 inch square glazed tiles. All our tiled fireplace hearths are suitable for use with solid fuels such as coal or logs as well as with gas or electric fires. Colours available: burgundy, ivory, midnight blue, steele green and teapot brown, Victorian blue, Victorian green, Victorian Brown and Basalt Black.
The majority of hearths will cost around £225 plus VAT, but this will vary depending on the individual size / any other requirements. This price applies to either solid fuel or decorative use.
Photos show a two colour quarry tiled hearth which are becoming very popular – price starts at £300 plus vat
Other hearths are available – slate hearth, granite hearths at an additional cost.
* Please note the price quoted is for decorative; additions will add to this cost. We can cut to any size but the base price of the hearth will both reduce if smaller and increase if larger.
