A blend of kaolin and china clay is used to create the Victorian tile on a fly-wheel press. The tiles produced have the same sharp square edge that made the originals so distinctive.
Many of these tiles are extensively hand-painted requiring several layers of underglaze colours, hand formulated to unique recipes. The complementary plain coloured tiles are also hand decorated. They are distinctive, individual and full of character.
Lead Time
Each tile design is made specifically for each customer to avoid batch variation, so there is a 2-4 week lead time from the date you order. Installation of the tiles should not be arranged until the tiles have been received. Any breakages must be reported within 24hrs of delivery.
Glazed Edges
We can glaze exposed edges. A single glazed edge (SGE) can be requested or a double glazed edge (DGE). There is a small charge for each glazed edge, please get in touch.
Tile Usage
The tiles have been fired to 1060°C and are suitable for all hot areas. The tiles are suitable for shower and steam rooms. Even though some of the glazes will craze, we can ensure that a waterproof layer called an ‘engobe’ is applied under the glaze. However, as with any tiling installation in wet areas, a suitable water barrier behind the tiles should be used. It is good practice to apply an impregnator to the grout and tiles after installation. The tiles can be used outside, however they can be susceptible to frost damage.
Returns
We are unable to take back unused tiles as they are made-to-order products.
