Description

Stovax Birds & Butterfly Decorated Tile Set

This product is priced per 5 tile set, please purchase two for a full set of 10 tiles (one set of 5 on either side of the fireplace).

The Stovax Birds & Butterfly Decorated Tile Set was faithfully reproduced from a Victorian original. Stovax’s fireplace tile sets are offset against a rich cream glaze, the decoration uses up to 18 individual colours in each design to make the tiles indistinguishable from hand-coloured originals. They are designed to perfectly complement both antique and reproduction cast iron tiled fireplaces.

Measurements
This set of 5 tiles could be used for tiled inserts or tiled combination fires. Each tile measures approx 150mm x 150mm (6″ x 6″), when assembled into a set of 5 they measure 750mm by 150mm (30″ by 6″). The edges are virtually square, so that the tiles can be laid flush up against each other without the need for grout.

Fireplace Tiles
The Victorian and Edwardian tile was very much a feature of the fire within the room, and was often vivid in colour with stunning designs. This could be as simple as a coloured embossed tile, to a run of tiles depicting many different scenes or images. From floral to symmetry, to simply unusual. Once the fire was lit these tiles would glow and the picture seen was so enticing.

When the Art Nouveau period arrived this style reached its way to all the accessories of a stylish home which very much included the tiles of the fire. They were awash with elegant curves, shapes and colours and would finish off that wonderful period image.
