Description

Countryside Bridge Fireplace Tile

This original blue and white dutch landscape design was reproduced from tiles in a Victorian Arts and Crafts manor house in Sussex. Although they are unattributed they are thought to be c.1899. The matching plain tiles to accompany this design are tin white, craquelle engobe or dark blue.

These original designs are decorated onto a tin white glaze using the traditional cobalt blue in-glaze techniques. We also offer an ‘aged’ option where the design is painted onto an engobe under-glaze before being coated in a crazing transparent glaze. Ideal for use in kitchens, bathrooms and fireplaces.

If you are buying this tile for use in a fireplace insert, you will usually want to have a total of 14 single tiles to make a full run. You can mix and match any single tiles you prefer. We have many complimentary coloured tiles you can choose from to match with these designs.

Measurements
This tile measures at 6″ x 6″ (152mm x 152mm) x 8mm thick.

These tiles are often found in Arts and Crafts houses alongside the tiles of William de Morgan and William Morris. Some Dutch manufacturers (especially The Ravesteijn factory) made a 6”x6” tile especially for the British Victorian market and even incorporated Arts and Crafts designs into their ranges. They are therefore perfect in any Victorian setting. The designs are timeless and also continue to be a popular choice for contemporary projects.
